Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself and your story.
I’m Matt Mahoney, a coach with 14 years under my belt. I’ve worked across the board—starting out as a personal trainer, running my own semi-private gym for a couple of years, and now coaching people online from all over the world.
Over the years, I’ve helped everyone from international rugby players to everyday blokes who just want to feel fitter, stronger, leaner and more in control of their health and confidence levels again. I’ve always believed it doesn’t matter where you’re starting from—if you’ve got the right plan, the right support, and the right mindset, you can absolutely turn things around.
Before all this, I played football (soccer) at a high level until I was 25. Sport’s been a big part of my life and it taught me a lot about structure, discipline, and showing up even when motivation’s low—lessons I now pass on to the fella’s I coach.
I’m massively passionate about learning and improving—not just for myself, but so I can give the best to my clients. Whether it’s biomechanics, nutrition, or how the brain ticks. I’ve had some of the best coaches and mentors in the world guide me, and that’s shaped my whole approach to coaching—practical, no-BS, and focused on what actually works in real life.
In late 2024, my wife Diana and I made the move from the UK to the Sunshine Coast in Australia with our little boy Koah and our dog Kernal. Life’s busy and full on, like it is for most of the people I work with—but I love it. And I coach because I want other people to feel like they’re genuinely in a good place with their body, their health, and their mindset—whatever life throws their way.
How and why did you choose to enter the world of Fitness/CrossFit?
I’ve trained since i was 16. All bicep curls and bench press! But then I got into CrossFit back in the Rich Froning era and ended up training and competing that way for 5–6 years. Eventually, I found myself drawn back to my roots in bodybuilding, and even stepped on stage to test myself. Now I’ve come full circle—lifting will always be a staple, but I love the challenge of a tough fitness session. There’s nothing quite like pushing yourself against the whiteboard!

Who or what inspires you and what has been the main influence to your journey?
With not just myself, but with others – I have a strong passion about making the most out of life. How good could we actually feel, and underpinning all of this is the way we treat ourselves through training, nutrition and the way we think. This is my biggest inspiration. And now being a Dad, I’m very inspired by making sure I am the fittest on the school yard!
