CrossFit Caloundra was born from a lifelong love of fitness, family, and community.
My name is Marty, and I’ve spent my whole life inside gyms. Literally.
I was born in 1980 and raised in my parents’ gyms on the Sunshine Coast. My Mum & Dad (Julie and Charlie Skele), built one of the first squash courts in Currimundi, eventually expanding it into a full gym and aerobics studio.
Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of being there with my brother Roh, watching Mum take high-energy classes in hot fluro leotards and seeing muscle-bound legends pump iron in the weights area. I remember thinking, “I want to be just like them.”
Even more than the equipment and energy, what stuck with me was the community. Mum and Dad didn’t just build a gym, they built a place where people felt welcome, connected, and inspired to better themselves. That feeling never left me.
CrossFit Caloundra is my way of continuing that legacy.
It’s a space for everyday people to surprise themselves, to feel supported, and to grow stronger, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. We train hard, we have fun, and we show up for each other. No egos. No judgement. Just good people, great coaching, and a shared commitment to progress.
Whether you’re brand new to fitness or returning after years away, you’ll find your place here. You’ll be challenged, celebrated, and reminded that you’re capable of more than you think.
We’re more than a gym. We’re a family and we’d love to welcome you into it.
