Have you ever been UPGRADED?

Maybe it’s for a flight, a hotel room or something else unexpected?

Everything feels like a treat … better seats, better sleep & more luxurious.

Well … that’s what your body feels like when you UPGRADE your food choices.

When you STOP feeding it nutrient poor food and START giving it food that’s flooded with vitality! Your body feels like it got an upgrade!

This is exactly how I feel (upgraded!) after transitioning from a fibre heavy, carbohydrate rich diet to a higher fat/protein animal-based diet around 5 months ago.

Basically, it’s all about SWAPPING out foods that aren't doing much for you and likely inhibiting a lot of your results … and replacing them with foods that move you closer to your goals!

Here are just a few examples of Animal-based upgrades to try:

Chicken → Grass-fed Beef

Why upgrade? The chicken you purchase in the shops is fed a diet high in soy and Omega-6 containing grains. Grass-fed beef on the other hand is eating a diet that is rich in natural nutrients straight from the earth.

Soy and grain fed animals will contain more Omega-6 fatty acids. These are the type that are typically way too high in most people's diets. An excess of these will cause all kinds of problems including weight gain and chronic inflammation which can then lead to long-term disease!

Grass-fed beef will be rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which most of us don’t eat enough of. These healthy fats lower inflammation, feed your brain, reduce triglycerides which play a major role in the build up of plaque in your arteries and improve insulin sensitivity - you definitely want this if you want to stay lean year round!

Coffee → Bone Broth

Why upgrade? Firstly, most of us already drink way too much coffee. Caffeine is a stimulant, which means it increases activity in your brain and nervous system. It also increases the circulation of chemicals such as cortisol and adrenaline in the body. This means that it will increase the "fight or flight" stress-inducing part of your nervous system. Most of us need to DE-STRESS, not increase stress.

Secondly, coffee is among the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world. It is steeped in synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides – a real mouthful with a bad taste. Exposing your body to a chemical concoction like that will be all kinds of terrible to your health!

Homemade bone broth using grass-fed bones on the other hand will supply your body with an abundance of health-boosting nutrients. With things like collagen, glycine & gelatine in high abundance, you will be getting an anti-aging, skin rejuvenating and gut health promoting kick in every cup!

Vegetable Oils for cooking → Beef Tallow

Why upgrade? Vegetable oils (corn, safflower, sunflower, soybean, cottonseed, canola, peanut, grapeseed, & most olive oils too) are extremely high in polyunsaturated fats, which are unstable. As a result, they produce a lot of free radicals when heated. Those free radicals can harm your body at the cellular level – causing all sorts of problems and an increased risk of developing degenerative diseases like heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.
Not recommended if you want to live a long, healthy, lean life.

Just a couple of generations ago, beef tallow was what people used to cook with. Not only does it have a very high smoke point and a long shelf life, but it’s also a way to ensure we’re using the whole animal – a practice our forefathers understood the value of and that we’re re-learning how to do today. It's rich in nutrients – not only does it help you absorb more nutrients from your food, but beef tallow is also rich in vitamins A, D, E, K, and B1.

Fun fact: Beef Tallow contains the saturated fat - stearic acid. This special fatty acid has been shown to burn fat at the mitochondrial level, and deficiency of it is shown to turn this process off. Basically, consuming this saturated fat improves your metabolism and makes you less fat!

Vegetables → Beef Liver

Why upgrade? Not many foods are worthy of the title “superfood.” However, liver is one of them. Once a popular and treasured food source, liver has fallen out of favour. This is unfortunate because liver is a nutritional powerhouse. It’s rich in protein, low in calories and packed with essential vitamins and minerals.

People often look to fruits and vegetables for their daily dose of vitamins and minerals, but liver far surpasses them all in terms of nutrient content. A small amount of liver provides well over 100% of the RDI for many essential nutrients. It's packed full of B-vitamins, iron, copper, Vitamin-A and choline. Vegetables really aren't needed for any nutrition they provide once you're eating a nose-to-tail animal-based diet with liver most days.

TIP: Soak your organic, grass-fed liver in milk or lemon juice before cooking as this will reduce the strong flavour. I shot mine raw each day with a cup of bone broth.

Nuts, Grains & Legumes → Just AVOID!

Why? Nuts, grains and legumes are extremely high in Phytic Acid. A known "anti-nutrient" that will bind to certain minerals in your digestive tract and deplete them from your body.

These foods (along with other vegetables) will also contain high amounts of "lectins". These are carbohydrate-binding proteins found in all plant foods. They are involved in plants’ defences against insects and other herbivores. Meaning plants have developed these defence systems over millions of years to avoid being eaten!

Dropping these foods will also ensure your gut lining stays in great shape to absorb maximum nutrients and avoid the negative side-effects associated with leaky-gut syndrome.

So there you go - some unexpected animal-based upgrades that I guarantee will supercharge your energy, health and physique to new levels!

Let me know which ones you're willing to action and I can give you some guidance.

Make it a healthy day,
